Our Choirs

Welcome to Seneca Valley Secondary Campus Music. Seneca Valley is proud to offer our students a variety of opportunities to participate in choral groups. The music programs at SV are award-winning and will offer your child an involved learning and performing experience. Our directors are really looking forward to working with you and your child this year. 

7th and 8th Grade Choirs 

The 7th and 8th grade choirs include students with vocal experience and also those who have never sung before. In class, students gain an understanding of how to properly use the singing voice and gain fundamental music reading skills. Members learn of the heritage of choral literature through performance of both past and present, sacred and secular music. Students are required to sing in concerts and wear the required concert uniforms. 

9th Grade Choral Union

The Ninth Grade Choral Union is a Freshman Choir which includes students with vocal experience and also those who have never sung before. Sopranos and Altos rehearse together in their own class, and Tenors and Basses sing together in their own class during the Men’s Chorus period. The students will have one afterschool rehearsal to practice as a ninth grade ensemble before each performance. In class, students gain an understanding of how to properly use the singing voice and gain fundamental music reading skills. Members learn of the heritage of choral literature through performance of both past and present, sacred and secular music. Ensemble singing is in three and four part music, with emphasis on independent part singing and music reading. Students are required to sing in concerts and wear the required concert uniforms. 

10th Grade Choral Union

The Tenth Grade Choral Union is a Sophomore Choir which includes students with vocal experience and also those who have never sung before. Sopranos and Altos rehearse together in their own class, and Tenors and Basses sing together in their own class during the Men’s Chorus period. The students will have one after school rehearsal to practice as a tenth grade ensemble before each performance. In class, students learn to safely practice vocal technique and further their music reading skills. Members learn of the heritage of choral literature through performance of both past and present, sacred and secular music. Ensemble singing is in four and five part music, with emphasis on independent part singing and music reading. Students are required to sing in concerts and wear the required concert uniforms. 

Treble Choir

There are two Treble Choirs in grades 9-12. The 10th Grade Women’s Chorus is an auditioned ensemble who perform for various community events. This advanced ensemble sings in three and four part secular and sacred treble literature, as well as SATB repertoire when combining with the Men’s Chorus. The 11th -12th Grade Women’s Chorus sings SSAA literature. They combine with both the Senior High Concert Choir and the Sophomore Women’s Chorus for various occasions. There is emphasis on individual ear training and sight reading. Students learn techniques to improve breath support, tone quality, range, and interpretation. Music from many time periods and genres are explored. The Women’s Choirs consistently earn Superior ratings. They regularly receive first place awards.

Men's Chorus

Seneca Valley proudly boasts the most 9-12 grade men singing in the choral program in the state of Pennsylvania, and possibly on the entire Eastern Coast! There are two Men’s Choirs at Seneca Valley, who combine for many performances. All ninth and tenth grade males who wish to sing are to sign up for the Men’s Chorus course. In this class, students will learn skills to sing well and will learn music for several ensembles including, but not limited to Choral Union, Chamber Choir, and Men's Chorus. This all-male class will focus on tenor/baritone/bass choral parts and the development of the male singing voice. Many different musical styles will be explored. All 11th & 12th Grade males will sing in the Senior High Men’s Chorus through their participation in the Concert Choir.


Concert Choir

The 11th & 12th Grade Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble. It is open to any SV student who would like to audition. It is a culmination of many years of vocal and musical growth through participation in the various younger SV ensembles. 

This advanced group sings in four to eight part secular and sacred SATB literature, as well as SSAA and TTBB repertoire when singing as part of the Treble Choir or Men’s Chorus. There is emphasis on individual ear training and sight reading. Students learn techniques to improve breath support, tone quality, range, and interpretation. Music from many time periods and genres are explored. This group consistently earns Superior ratings, and has won multiple first place awards!

Madrigal Choir 

The Madrigal Singers, directed by Bobi-Jean Alexander are a select group of singers chosen by audition. They rehearse one night per week. The group performs a cappella literature of the15th and 16th C. as well as other appropriate chamber choir literature. The Madrigal Singer’s mission is to promote the highest degree of excellence in choral singing and to provide the community with high quality choral music. 

The Madrigal Singers consistently place 1st in their division at competitions throughout the United States and have won many Overall Grand Championships as the best choir of the competition. The Madrigals have sung for the PMEA State Music Conference, the Heinz Chapel Chamber Choir Invitational and for various community organizations.

Show Choir

The Seneca Valley Show Choir, originated and directed by Bobi-Jean Alexander since 1997, has received National Acclaim by the Grammy Foundation, and has performed live for a crowd of over 40,000 people in downtown Pittsburgh for their televised Light Up Night. Every year, they perform for Kennywood Park, and for community events. The Show Choir includes advanced, auditioned students who apply their knowledge of vocal technique to a style of performing ensemble that is unique to this group. It is the only Broadway/Pop genre ensemble at Seneca Valley. These students will focus on singing, as well as choreography and staging positions. Student directing and choreographing is encouraged! Show Choir students will learn and memorize music, monologues, and dances. Students perform a variety of “Broadway” and “Pop” repertoire. The Show Choir regularly receives 1st place Superiors in their division at competitions throughout the United States and has won many Overall Grand Championships. 

Quintet - Womens

Quintet - Mens
